Life of Mark Zuckerberg

Zuckerberg was born in 14, 1984, in White Paints, New York to Edward and Karen, Mark’s father is a dentist and his mother is psychiatrist. He has three siblings.Mark Zuckerberg is the developer of the globally used social networking website, Facebook.

Early and School Life

He studied at the Ardsley High School, New York, and after that the Phillips Exeter Academy. From a very young age, he took an interest in astronomy, mathematics physics, English classical literature and foreign language.

He was also part of the fencing team. But most of all, he liked writing coding software. His father gifted him a computer and taught him Atari BASIC Programming.

College Journey

Zuckerberg attended Mercy College at a very young age. He was taught Software Programming by the renowned professor David Newman.

He developed software called ZuckNet, and then he and his friend created one more software called Synapse Media Player. The software allows users to make their own playlist. It gained a lot of media attention.

Zuckerberg’s Synapse Media Player was published on Slashdot and PC Magazine. He was already in demand for his products. While Microsoft offered one million dollars to buy off his software, AOL messenger applications also tried to purchase it and offered him a job. However, Zuckerberg turned down both the offers.

In 2002, Zuckerberg graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and moved to Harvard University. He studied Psychology and Computer Science. During his college days, he was the go-to software developer on campus.

In 2003, he built the software for CourseMatch – was a course selection program, and FaceMash – a rating app to compare physical features and attractiveness of people on campus.

It was later revealed that Zuckerberg faced changes for creating FaceMash for ‘breaching Security, violating copyrights and violating individual privacy.’ It also caught the attention of the university officials but he was allowed to remain as a student.

 Facebook

In 2004, Zuckerberg started The Facebook, a social networking site, which his friends. The site allowed users to create their own profiles, upload their photos, and communicate with other people.

He left Harvard in 2004, and focused on his company, The Facebook, later chaining its name to Facebook. The website rose to fame by 2005, mostly due to the fact that Zuckerberg received enormous funding from the Accel Partners.

In just two years, Facebook became well-known all over the world. Zuckerberg had initially created this software for Harvard University students alone. However, Facebook later expanded to other educational institutions like Yale, Dartmouth and Stanford. In 2005, Facebook hit five million users.

At the age of 22, 2006 Zuckerberg turned away many big companies who wanted to acquire Facebook. He refused a billion-dollar offer from Yahoo and $15 billion from Microsoft.

Another Step of Success

In 2010, his journey was documented in the movie called The Social Networking, starring Jesse Eisenberg. The film was based on the 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires, by Ben Merzich.

The movie received right Academy Awarded nominations. In 2010, Zuckerberg was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year’ and featured in Vanity Fair and Forbes as well.

Zuckerberg has utilized his generous earnings for charitable work. He invested millions of dollars to save the failing school system. In 2010, he signed The Giving Pledge. He Pledge to donate at least half of his wealth to charity throughout his lifetime. He also donated to help out Ebola victims in West Africa.

Love Life and Family

At Harvard, Mark met Priscilla Chan. They dated for seven years and finally got married on May 19, 2012. The couple has two kids
